Class Twitter Account

Breaking news, for the rest of the term I’m going to experiment with a new way of sharing our learning in R5! Instead of using our class blog to share our learning I am going to use our class twitter account!

I have been blogging in my class for the last 5 years and over that time our class blog has won numerous awards (Interface Blog of the Year, Edublog World Blog of the Year nominee). I have thoroughly enjoyed blogging but think it is now time for a change!

So from now on we are going to use our class twitter account, @PalmyKids, to share with the world! Our class twitter account is already very active as we use it to take part in Kidsedchatnz and connect with other classes around the globe.

I think by using our class twitter account we can share more easily and more often. It also means that the kids can be responsible for the sharing as well.

Basically we will be sharing the same stuff (photos, videos, learning, etc…) but on a different platform.

You don’t need a twitter account to see what’s happening all you need to do is click the picture below and read the timeline!

Let me know what you think, I’ll be interested in your thoughts!

Interface Magazine Awards

Wow, I just found out that Kidsedchatnz has made it into the finals of the Interface Magazine Awards for Best Teaching with ICT! How cool is that!

A big thank you must go out to Pascal (Founder of Kidsedchatnz) and all the classes that support Kidsedchatnz (especially our regular classes @Rm1HNS, @VardonRoom7, @LittleGiants7, @PalmyKids, @Room2Smarties and @MKKRm2). Without you guys Kidsedchatnz would not work!

Also you get to have a say in who wins through a voting process. All you need to do is click on the picture below and it will take you to the voting page. Kidsedchatnz would love your vote!

#kidsedchatnz Touchcast

Check out this Touchcast that Ana made about #kidsedchatnz! I think she did a great job!

Yesterday R5 took part in #kidsedchatnz with 10 other schools around New Zealand. R5 and I are now the official organisers of #kidsedchatnz as the founder has moved to Australia and he has handed the reigns over to us!

Since taking control we have made a few changes to the format. We have changed the day to Wednesday, made it a weekly thing and extended the time to 1 hour. Also we have started a new #kidsedchatnz blog and launched a #kidsedchatnz logo competition.

Yesterday’s session was based around writing and it was a huge success. Over 10 school’s took part and over 350 tweets were recorded in one hour. Wow, that’s awesome! Below is a picture of R5 taking part and a Storify of all the tweets!

If you want to join us next week just click here to find how and while you’re there check out next week’s topic!

Farewell Olivia

Today was Olivia our College teacher’s last day in 4.5. We were extremely sad to see her go and everyone is going to miss her.

Thanks Olivia for being an awesome college teacher, we have been so lucky to have you in our class. I know you will go on and become an awesome class teacher!

Check out this little video me made for her! We think it’s kinda funny!

Skyping Australia!

Today R5 skyped Miss Fraser’s class in Melbourne, Australia! Miss Fraser’s class have been hosting our class mascots the snail and whale for the last few weeks.

So what did we do during our skype session? Well we taught them how to count to 10 in Maori, performed our cups song and asked them some Maths questions as part of NZ Maths week.

Thanks Miss Fraser’s class for a great session, we really enjoyed connecting with you!

Every second Thursday a group of kids in R5 take part in #kidsedchatNZ on twitter. So what is #kidsedchatNZ? Well if you want to find out all about it just click on the picture below and it will take to the official #kidsedchatNZ website.

The teacher who organises it is away this week so I am the official moderator for the session! How cool is that!

End Of Term Two!

Today was the last day of term 2, yippee! It has been the busiest term that I can remember and as a reward for all our hard work we decided to let our hair down a little.

What did we do? Visual Language! Here is a photo of R5 enjoying their visual language treat!

Buddy Time

Today R5 got together with their buddy class to share their digital portfolios. Check out the photos!

Maori Street Names

This week Rosie set all the classes a challenge of coming up with the English pronunciation of the Maori street names in our area. Check out what Rosalind, Sophie and Grace came up with!

Blog Spotlight

Today I thought I would do something different and spotlight one of R5′s student blogs. Whose blog did I choose? Well I choose Bella’s! Bella has a fantastic blog which is full of awesome, creative posts!

This is the first year Bella has had a blog and she is really proud of what she has achieved.

Well done Bella, you are always focused and are a role model to everyone in class!
