Twitter Time

Yesterday Bella, Hannah and Georgia took part in our first ever #kidsedchatnz on our class twitter account.

What is #kidsedchatnz? Well it is where kids from around New Zealand get together on Thursday afternoon’s to discuss relevant topics via twitter. Yesterday’s topics were about term’s 2 learning and the holidays.

We think it is a great way for kids to connect with other classes and helps improve thinking and literacy skills. Yesterday our blog buddies from Vardon School were tweeting as well!

If you want to check out what the kids were tweeting about go to @palmykids or look at the widget on the sidebar.

My Lunch Box

Today in class we did an activity where we compared what we had in our lunch boxes with the food pyramid.

It was interesting to see the different types of foods everyone was eating and later in the term we are going to repeat the activity to see if we have improved.

Below is a picture of my lunch box. Have I got a healthy or unhealthy lunch?

The Big Crunch

Today RSS was part of a world record attempt for the most apples bitten into at one time! What happened was there were schools all around New Zealand taking part and at 2.13pm we all had to take a bite of an apple.

How many children took part all together? Well they were hoping for 15,000 kids! Every child had to bring a gold coin and the proceeds went to kidsCan!

Look what arrived in the mail this week, some awesome postcards from Point View School in Auckland. Point View School have been hosting the snail and whale and sent them back with some cool postcards.

Thanks Point View, we enjoyed reading them in class and are glad the snail and whale made it back safe and sound!

Term 2 Topic

This term our topic is based around Healthy food and fitness. To make it a bit more exciting we have decided to form a company with R3 and R6 and we will be making our own cereal to sell to the community.

R6 are making the product, R3 are packaging it and our class are marketing it. Sounds like fun? You bet, watch this space to see what our company gets up to!

Below is a picture of the 3 classes talking about how the company is going to work!

Learning At School

Does anyone know where Stephen was today? Well I was presenting a Workshop on how to use Puppet Pals at Learning At School. Learning at School is a teacher conference that focuses on ICT and today it was at St James School.

Anyway I wasn’t the only one presenting. I had help from my two co-presenters Georgia and Rosalind. The girls modeled how to use Puppet Pals to the teachers and helped out during the have a go session.

Thanks girls, you did a wonderful job!

Clustr Map

Check out the Clustr Map for our class blog ‘The Ins & Outs’! Every red dot means a person from that part of the world has been on our blog.

Wow, that is a lot of visitors! In fact our blog has officially had 84,679 visitors since it started a couple of years ago. I wonder if we will reach 100,000 by the end of the year?

Would you like a Clustr Map for your blog? Just click here to go the Clustr Map website. They are free and easy to put on your blog. If you have any problems just see me at school and I will help you!

Haiku Deck

Yesterday in class I shared a new app with the kids called Haiku Deck. It is easy to use and allows you to make little mini presentations. Check out this presentation made by Liam about his favourite out of school activity ‘Minecraft’!

Blog Buddies

R5 has some new blog buddies! Their class is R7 at Vardon School in Hamilton, New Zealand. Their teacher contacted me via twitter asking if any classes around the world had e-Portfolios and whether they would be keen to hook up.

I responded straight away saying we would be keen! Anyway we have buddied the 2 classes up and throughout the year we are going to leave comments and communicate through our blogs.

Click on the picture to check out their blog and scroll down the sidebar to see their individual student blogs!
